Nurse practitioners have become the primary care providers for millions of Americans and are poised to meet the challenge of providing comprehensive, high-quality and cost-effective care to many more millions of people in the changing health care market. Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) are uniquely skilled primary care providers who work collaboratively to meet the health care needs of diverse individuals and families across the lifespan, in a variety of practice settings. Graduates of ÖйúÈËÉ«ÇéÊÓƵ’s FNP program are trained as competent and compassionate clinicians who will provide excellent community-based primary care to diverse, under-served, and vulnerable populations.

Program Overview
ÖйúÈËÉ«ÇéÊÓƵ FNP Students

The ÖйúÈËÉ«ÇéÊÓƵ FNP program offers a full- and part-time program of study for bachelor’s-prepared registered nurses (RNs) licensed in New York state. The FNP program is a total of 46Ìýcredits, which includes 36 credits didactic coursework and nine credits of clinical coursework (totaling 810 hours). Graduates of the program receive a Master of Science in Nursing, FNP certification, and are eligible to sit for national certification. A part-time, post-master’s FNP certificate is also available to eligible candidates who will receive an individualized program of study.

A post-master's certificate for Family Nurse Practitioner is available for nurses who already hold a master's degree in nursing; however, it is an individualized program of study dependent on transcript review.Ìý

See the requirements below if you are an NP in another specialty area for the FNP Post-Master's Certificate:

Previously taken courses in Advanced Pathophysiology, Advanced Pharmacology, and Advanced Health Assessment must be reviewed for transfer. Advanced Pathophysiology and Advanced Pharmacology can be no more than 5 years old and must address the lifespan. If desired, an optional test out of NSG 665: Advanced Health Assessment I is available and would include a written comprehensive exam, demonstration of a complete H&P, and completion of a SOAP note. These courses may be audited based on transcript review.Ìý The FNP program of study requires a minimum of 500 clinical hours for post-master's, secondary certification NP students.

These courses may be audited pending transcript review. This FNP program of study requires 810 hours of clinical preceptorship.
